239. Background Work

One of the things I’ve noticed about my photography lately is that I shoot lots and lots of backgrounds. Not a subject to be found. I have thousands of photos with nothing really in them, just an urban scene or landscape. No real focal point, no specific subject, just a blank scene. Sometimes that works brilliantly and you feel like a genius, most of the time I scratch my head trying to remember what I thought I was seeing in the moment.

2014-5-11 Venice-0214For most of my Italy photos it was to try to convey what it feels like to be in these places. I want to be able to look back at my photos and remember exactly where I was, what it felt like, what it smelled like. In some way I feel like the better the photo is, the better my memory is of that moment.

238. quietly erasing the week

2012-9-20 Boston - 0052One of the most satisfying things about photography is finding the perfect spot to stand when composing a photo. There’s an odd click that happens in your brain when everything just falls into place.

I added an old polar style process on it to help enhance the contrast between the bricks and the steel.
